The Earth in the Solar System Full moon (Poornima) : Once in a month New moon (Amavasya): after a fortnight of full moon,no moon at all. Celestial bodies:  The sun, the moon and all those objects shining in the night sky are called celestial bodies. Stars :Some celestial bodies are very big and hot. They are made up of gases. They have their own heat and light, which they emit in large amounts. These celestial bodies are called stars. The sun is a star. Constellations : various patterns formed by different groups of stars. ex. Ursa Major(Big Bear),Saptarishi(Sapta-seven, rishi-sages) forms a part of Ursa Major constellation. Pole star :  The North star indicates the north direction. It is also called the Pole Star. Planet : Some celestial bodies do not have their own heat and light. They are lit by the light of the stars. Such bodies are called planets. The word ‘planet’ comes from the Greek word “Planetai” which means ‘wanderers’. Satellite : The moon that we see in the sk

History : Chapter 1

Hunters - Gatherers   : People who gathered their food.   Collected roots,fruits & other forest foods & Also hunted animals.L ived at the bank of river Narmada . Sulaiman & Kirthar hills (Now in Pak)  : First sign of growing crops about 8000 years ago. Beginning of rearing  animals.    Garo hills (North-East) & Vindhyas (Central India) were some of other areas where agriculture first developed.  Rice :  north of the Vindhyas . Tributaries : T ributaries are smaller rivers that flow into a  larger river.                   Earliest Cities : About 4700 years ago on the banks of river Indus & its tributaries .   Later about 2500 years ago near the banks of Ganga & its tributaries, and along the sea coasts.  Ganga & its tributory Son :   Area to the south of these river was know as Magadha (Bihar). Powerful Rurals, set up large Kingdom. India & Bharat : Originated from the Indus(Sindhu in Sanskrit). Iranians & the Geeks gives the name India
